First Communion/Child Photographer, Burlington, MA and Sudbury, MA

There's something very special about a First Communion...it's a very proud moment for both parent and child. These images were taken at home before the First Communion mass and the expression on this beautiful little face says it all. Just look at her emotions shine through; excitement, pride, joy and even a little apprehension. Such a sweet girl!

On a side note, today I was at my mom and dad's and started digging around looking for my own First Communion picture. I couldn't find it in the boxes of pictures my dad has (it's there somewhere), but I did find this beautiful picture of my mom when she made her First Communion. It reminded me (again) of how important it is to print your photos, especially of such an important event like this. I am one of the the worst offenders of not printing photos but I am trying to change my ways. Our children deserve to have these beautiful generational family images some day.

Burlington, MA Family Photographer

I have been trying for weeks to write this blog post and I really wanted to write it before we all forget about this snow...if that's even possible. This winter has not been easy for many people, but I actually haven't minded it. (The fact that I work from home and don't have to commute in it definitely helps!) There's something special about a big snowstorm (or two, or three, or four). I enjoy the walks at night when it's so quiet and peaceful, I get to see my neighbors while we are all shoveling for the umpteenth time, and once in awhile I even get to have some fun playing in the snow.

My kids are grown so I don't have little ones to play in the snow with anymore which makes me a little sad. However, I am lucky that my second cousin-in-law (or something like that!) and her family are my neighbors. Their adorable 5 month old had an awesome introduction to the snow this winter and she didn't seem to mind it one bit. These were taken in my back yard after one of the whopper storms. I don't think it will take you long to realize that someone has her daddy wrapped around her little finger already!  Good luck to you in a few years!  : )

Winter Sibling Portraits | Stoneham, MA Photographer

Well I survived the holidays and I had a great time with my family and I hope you did as well. In the midst of shopping, wrapping, cooking, editing, printing, packaging and trying to stay sane, I was able to get in some last minute holiday sessions for a lucky few. I was so touched by this session since the inquiry came from one of the kids. She contacted me because they wanted to do this as a surprise Christmas present for their mom...what a great gift idea!

I loved the fact that they were willing to brave the cold (and even a little snow) to get this session done. I have come to love winter sessions...they are beautiful and fresh and you certainly don't have to worry about the humidity affecting your hair or make-up! :)   Here are a few of my favorites from this sibling session.

North Shore Beach Maternity Session | Burlington, MA Maternity Photographer

As I started to write this post about my recent maternity session for Katie (my cousin in law, neighbor and friend), I realized something pretty big. Many of my photography "firsts" have been thanks to Katie and her family.

Way before I was a professional photographer, I got a call from Katie's sister to do their family photos. What? Family photos? But I'm not a professional! We want you to do it, she said. Really? Well, ok, I'll do it. So with the help of some new equipment and lots of practice, I did my first official family session.

A few year later, I got a call from Katie and her mom to do wedding photos for Katie and her soon to be husband. What, are you crazy?? I don't do weddings!! But we want you to do it, they said. So with the help of even more new equipment, lots of learning, and an encouraging friend who flew in from MN to help me, I did my first wedding. Fast forward a couple of years. The happy couple are now my very fun neighbors who are expecting their first baby in just two weeks and two days (but who is counting). And so we have another first....maternity photos!

I have always been envious of some amazing north shore photographers who get to shoot on the beach all the time. So what better time to give it a shot than with this maternity session! It was a gorgeous summer evening...perfect for the beach. (I could get used to this!) Shooting on the beach is not easy and presents a whole new set of challenges, but I was once again forced to step out of my comfort zone and try something new! Many thanks to you, Katie, and your amazing family for pushing me to develop my skills, for being patient with me, and for giving me new excuses to buy new equipment!!  : )

Next up...birthing photos? Well, maybe just newborn!

Pre-deployment Military Session | Burlington, MA Photographer

It's hard enough to watch your child grow up and graduate high school, but I cannot image what it's like to be the mother of a son or daughter who is entering the military upon graduation. I was asked to shoot some photos of Jake and his four very beautiful sisters two days before he departed for basic training. I've done sessions for military families in the past and each time I do them, I convince myself that I will not get emotional! But that's never the case...especially when you see mom and sisters get teary eyed.  <3

Jake is currently in Boot Camp and then will complete his Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) Training as a Combat Engineer. For an eye-opening description of what that entails, click here. I know Jake is deeply missed by his family and friends, but I also know that he will make them all proud! So keep him and all of our incredibly selfless military personnel in your thoughts.
